A confirmed job offer is central to the UK Skilled Worker route. Treat the role, the employer and the applicable requirements as one research task.
What this route is for
The Skilled Worker visa is an employer-linked route for an eligible job with a Home Office-approved employer. Official guidance also requires a certificate of sponsorship and applicable salary and English-language requirements. Details vary, so use GOV.UK Skilled Worker visa as your source of record.
Research the employer and the job together
Create a short research sheet for each position: the employer’s legal name, its own careers-page URL, the role title, the proposed location and the named recruitment contact. A third-party advertisement should lead you back to an identifiable employer. Keep your application history and correspondence in one place so conflicting details are easier to spot.
Before investing heavily in the process, ask the recruiter whether the particular role is intended for applicants who need sponsorship. A company’s ability to sponsor does not mean every job at that company will be offered with immigration support.
Build a document plan
Use the official document section to make your own checklist. Add a column for who supplies each item, another for whether translation or verification needs checking, and a final column for the date you obtained it. Do not send passport scans or other sensitive records to an unverified person simply because they contacted you about a job.
Separate costs from promises
Check current application costs at the official source rather than copying figures from old social posts. Ask for written explanations of any recruitment, relocation or legal-service charges, including who is responsible for them. Be cautious about anyone selling a guaranteed job or visa result.
Your next step
Review the government guidance, save the role description and list the questions you still need the employer to answer. If the facts are complex, seek an appropriately qualified adviser. You can also compare our Global Talent introduction and UK country hub.
