An attractive course offer is one part of a study plan. Check the institution, the programme and the current immigration instructions before committing.
Start with IRCC
IRCC describes the study permit as permission for foreign nationals to study at designated learning institutions in Canada. Most foreign nationals need one. Its official study-permit hub links to eligibility, documents and application instructions. Start with IRCC study permit guidance and follow the links relevant to your circumstances.
Verify the course directly
Use the institution’s own website and published contact channels. Save the exact programme title, start date, campus and written offer conditions. Ask the international office which documents it supplies and which questions need to be answered by the immigration authority. A similar institution name or a persuasive agent message is not enough to establish that an offer is genuine.
Create a complete budget
Build separate lines for tuition, accommodation, everyday living, travel, insurance and application expenses. Mark every amount as either confirmed, quoted or estimated. Include the date and currency next to each figure. Keep an emergency allowance separate from the money already committed to the course.
Do not rely on an unconfirmed scholarship or future part-time earnings to fill a funding gap. Work permission and longer-term immigration possibilities need their own official checks; they should not be assumed from the existence of an admission offer.
Organise your evidence
Build the document list from the current IRCC instructions. Track the source, expiry date and status of each item. Check whether there are instructions linked to your country or personal circumstances, rather than treating another student’s checklist as universal.
Before submitting or travelling
Read the application instructions once more and compare them with your saved checklist. Note where official rules have changed since you first researched the course. Keep copies of submissions and receipts securely, and use the official account or contact route for updates.
